Marsha is a graduate of Mount Holyoke with a chemical engineering degree and the ex-wife of NBA superstar, Rodney Fisher. So she's not exactly the first woman you would expect to find working at a DC strip club called Hustler's Delight. This is where Marsha finds herself years after a quick divorce and sudden move. Now Marsha's found a way to make some extra money, putting her chemical engineering skills to work in a non-traditional way and making use of her position as a stripper. As far as she's concerned, no one's getting hurt, at least that's what she's convinced herself. But not all of her victims see it that way...

I enjoyed Marsha's story very much. An unusual and many-sided main character, this naughty and ingenious woman is both devoted and cynical, abused and now abusing. Alexandra is really good on the details of her lowlife milieu - her dialogue is particularly sharp - as, with help and insights from those around her, Marsha navigates a rough path through the redeemable and sometimes irredeemable people in her life to a satisfying ending. The other characters are good too, always believable, there's lots of engaging reflection on how Marsha comes to be in her current predicament, and the structure has the quality of a little film which will keep you involved to the end.Product details

Eating Off The Floor edition by Kesia Alexandra Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
loved it! i was captivated from beginning to end. I wanted to know more about what happened next while also feeling a sense of closure/ satisfaction about Marsha's situation. Great))
I loved the title and how it fit into the story. This was a fun, yet dark book with plenty of realistic details. Marsha, the main character, is relatable but not too like-able. Though there is plenty of gripping action, I do wish that the author would have expanded on the characters a bit, especially Smith. Eating Off The Floor is a new twist on good girls doing bad things.
A well-written story. Alexandra builds character development and plot simultaneously, and writes in a gritty urban style that keeps the pages turning. You're really rooting for the protagonist, even if what she's doing isn't always the right thing--Marsha's justification for her actions is presented in such a way that you want to agree with her. This is the book's biggest strength AND weakness "Eating Off The Floor" boldly addresses some deep and complex issues such as the exploitation of women and the sexism and materialism that's pervasive in the hip-hop culture, but it could dig even deeper in doing so. Alexandra blends social commentary, romance, and action together admirably in a scant 52 pages, raising real questions about gender relations--without quite going far enough to supply the answers.
This story grabs you by the collar on page 1 and never lets you go. The main characters are vivid and badass. The way Alexandra explored the junction of strip clubs and hip hop made me think of my hometown of Atlanta where that intersection is a major industry of its own. I also loved the idea of a woman with a science degree applying those skills and talents to something a little more criminal. I liked how the book didn't shy away from the ethical issues. And Smith’s personality is so great; his attractiveness just rises like steam off the . The author has a great voice, and I want to read more.
Eating Off The Floor is a short story, easily read in one sitting. The story is one of motherly love, desperate necessity, devious forethought. A divorced mother is a talented bio engineer, and to support the expensive education of her son, a stripper. She supplements her income in a manner that is the thrust of Eating Off The Floor.
The story emphasizes the means to which one will go in the right…or wrong…circumstances. A unique look into a lifestyle choice made by unfortunate situations that are an assumed backstory. The author cleverly lets the reader make up their own mind in several areas…most specifically, the ‘why’ of it all. Nicely done, food for thought.
Well written, a fast read, worth the time. Enjoy!
This short story was just what I needed, a little suspense, a little romance, a little humor all rolled into one. I loved how the author led me to empathize with the heroine, but didn't have pity for her--always a fine line there and she wrote the feelings beautifully. And the lead guy...he's a sweet and strong balance. I'll be looking for more titles form Kesia and hoping there will be a follow up novella or novel even.
This story starts out like a slap, hitting you right away as we meet Marsha the stripper and join her on her latest heist. Despite being, clearly, a criminal, she comes off immediately as a sympathetic character. (It helps that her targets are so sleazy!) I wanted to know her, to understand her. She's such a great character because she seems so real. As more of her story is revealed, and she rationalizes her actions and decisions, Marsha shows herself to be an admirable woman in more ways than one.
Everything about this story is well crafted, especially the dialogue. It's rare for me to read a book and hear a person's accent and mannerisms shine through, but that's exactly what Kesia Alexandra accomplished. I felt like I was right there with everybody. Marsha's story is gritty and heartfelt, exploring the choices an intelligent, well-educated woman might make when faced with the tough realities of life. In the end it is a hopeful story, too. I feel like I learned something and was given plenty to think about. But mostly, it's just a seriously great read!
I enjoyed Marsha's story very much. An unusual and many-sided main character, this naughty and ingenious woman is both devoted and cynical, abused and now abusing.
